About the Therapist

Yvonne Christopher was born and educated in the continental United States; however, she spent most of her adult life in the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands where she was a school administrator.

Credentials

When Yvonne returned from the Caribbean, she began studies at the Potomac Massage Therapy Institute in Washington, DC. Her training included anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and the techniques of Swedish and deep tissue massage.

After receiving certification as a massage therapist in 2003, Yvonne was nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Since that time, Yvonne has been a member of the American Massage Therapy Association. She received her training in hot stone massages and Biotone spa treatments, which include techniques of body wraps, scrubs, and polishing.

Oncology Experience

Yvonne has extensive medical massage training for persons in cancer treatment or living with cancer. Her interest in oncology massage led to training at Memorial Sloane Kettering, a cancer research hospital in New York City. She received additional training with two pioneers in the field of oncology massage: Cheryl Chapman, formerly an oncology nurse and Tracy Walton, a researcher, teacher, writer, and massage therapist.

Additional Experience

In addition to oncology massages, Yvonne is a reiki master. She also provides post-surgical massage for plastic surgeons.

Philosophy

Yvonne's philosophy is that massages should no longer be considered a luxury, but a necessity for coping in today's stressful world.
